American involvement in vietnam |
The USA's attempt to contain the spread of communism was not really effective in Vietnam. It was just a waste of time. There were many casualties and the USA did not achieve anything. In the end they were basically forced to retreat. Containing communism in Vietnam was a failure. There were several things causing this failure like the Vietcong and the terrain/geography. They might seem like insignificant things, but they had a huge effect on the success of the United States in Vietnam. They were the main two things that caused the failure of the United States.

First, there was the Vietcong. They used guerilla tactics that were sometimes fatal. If they were not fatal, they slowed the United States military a lot and left many injured. There was no way they could get to the people with these guerilla tactics. They made things practically impossible.
There was also the terrain and geography that made things difficult. The geography made it impossible to know where the people were hiding. The only option the United States had left was to throw bombs wherever they thought the people could be. They spent thousands of dollars on bombs and were lucky if they hit one. Overall, the United States in Vietnam was a failure. It was pointless.
